Writers’ Trust shortlist perfection

Five author slots on the annual Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize shortlist and this year, it’s five Access Copyright affiliates nominated.

- Pamela Mordecai – nominated for Red Jacket (TAP Books).
- Russell Smith – nominated for Confidence (Biblioasis).
- John Vaillant – nominated for The Jaguar’s Children (Knopf Canada).
The shortlist was announced at a morning event at Ben McNally Books in Toronto on September 29. The selections were made by a jury of authors Aislinn Hunter, Shani Mootoo and Richard Wagamese who read 127 books before making their five shortlist picks.
The winner of this year’s Fiction Prize will be revealed at the Writers’ Trust Awards on November 3.
Coinciding with the Fiction Prize shortlist announcement was the news of the three aspiring scribes up for the Writers’ Trust / McClelland & Stewart Journey Prize which annually honours an up-and-coming writer for the best short story published in a Canadian literary journal.
Up for this year’s award are authors Emily Bossé, Deirdre Dore and Anna Ling Kaye. As with the Fiction Prize, the winner of the Journey Prize will be announced on November 3.
