Payback for Writers and Payback for Visual Artists

Access Copyright will distribute this year’s Payback payment to our creator affiliates the week of November 5.

If you receive royalties from us by cheque, it will be mailed out to you on November 5. Due to rotating strikes by Canada Post workers, it may take longer than usual for your cheque to arrive.

If you receive royalties from us by direct deposit, please allow up to two business days for your payment to appear in your bank account.

The 2018 base payment for writers and visual artists is $47.11. If you have submitted a Payback claim form in the past, you will also receive a supplementary payment based on the type and amount of work you reported.

More information on this year’s payment can be found by reading our Frequently Asked Questions or emailing us at

Changes to our distribution reporting

As of our November distribution, we have moved to online notifications and distribution reporting for creator and publisher rightsholders as part of our commitment to serve you better and provide timely information about our royalty distributions.

Accessing your distribution report

Your distribution report, which details this year’s Payback payment to you, is available in your online portal account. To review the report, please visit the creator portal and login with your user name and password.

Unsure of your login credentials? Email us at and we would be pleased to assist you.

How to access your report: After logging into the portal, you’ll see your distribution letter and report on the left side of your screen. The distribution report uses the same format as the reports Access Copyright has sent to you in the past. We hope online reporting, which we have implemented with this distribution, will provide your distribution details to you more efficiently. If you prefer to receive paper notifications and reports, please email us at and we would be happy to coordinate this for you.

For Safari users: You will need to perform one extra step after downloading your report, which will initially appear as a text file. Please find the report file in your Download folder and remove the ".txt" portion of the file name to access a PDF copy of your report.

Access Copyright is moving. As of December 3, 2018, our new address will be 69 Yonge Street, Suite 1100, Toronto ON, M5E 1K3. Email addresses and phone extensions will remain the same.
