Impacts of educational ‘fair dealing’ policies becoming increasingly evident

The May issue of Quill & Quire includes a report titled “Unfair Dealings” that describes the impact educational ‘fair dealing’ policies are having on Canadian creators and publishers.

Declining sales for new titles, disappearing licensing revenue, lost jobs and decreasing investment in creation of Canadian content are all part of the story. If we’re unable to change course, however, the ultimate impact will be felt by educators and students of tomorrow, who will not have the same selection of high-quality Canadian content that we enjoy today.

TWUC’s John Degen has highlighted the article and has provided additional analysis and comment on his blog. Read it here. And Quill & Quire has kindly moved this important story onto the public portion of their website so that we’re now able to share it with the wider community. Check it out here.
