Sometimes you just have to go with the flow.
Case in point: October 5th’s ScotiaBank Giller Prize shortlist announcement at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
When there was a break in the gas line near the Art Gallery less than hour before the big news, organizers quickly shifted gears and moved the announcement to the neighbouring Bau-Xi Gallery.
And then--without missing a beat--CBC personality Rick Mercer got down to the business of announcing the Giller shortlist.
Among the five authors on this year’s shortlist are two Access Copyright affiliates.
Affiliate André Alexis received a nod for Fifteen Dogs (Coach House Books) and Anakana Schofield was nominated for Martin John (A John Metcalf Book, an imprint of Biblioasis). Among publisher affiliates nominated are the aforementioned Coach House Books and Biblioasis.
Rounding out the shortlist is Samuel Archibald for Arvida (Biblioasis, translated from French by Donald Winkler), Rachel Cusk for Outline (Harper Perennial, an imprint for HarperCollins Publishers Ltd.) and Heather O’Neill for Daydreams of Angels (HarperCollins Publishers Ltd.).
The winner of this year’s Giller will be revealed on nationwide television on CBC on November 10.
A trio of readings featuring writers who will be on the Prize’s shortlist are scheduled in Vancouver on October 21, Halifax on November 2 and Toronto on November 9.
