Four days of dialogue have led to a resolution in a decade-long disagreement between Canadian visual artists and the National Gallery of Canada over compensation for artists who exhibit or work with the gallery.
Canadian Artists’ Representation (CARFAC) and Le Regroupement des artistes en arts visuels du Québec (RAAV) announced a tentative agreement with the National Gallery on November 24, after four day of often taxing negotiations brought an end to the prolonged dispute.
“The parties are proud to have reached this ground-breaking agreement to remunerate living Canadian artists, a historic milestone that will undoubtedly contribute to the long-term sustainability of the visual arts in Canada,” read the announcement from CARFAC.
The agreement is subject to ratification by the members of CARFAC and RAAV and the National Gallery’s Board of Trustees.
