Celebrating Giller winner André Alexis
Monday, January 1, 0001
It’s been quite the November for author and AC affiliate André Alexis and his novel, Fifteen Dogs (Coach House Books).
First, he won the $25,000 Rogers Writers’ Trust Prize on November 3.
Then, a week later, Alexis won the $100,000 Scotiabank Giller Prize.
Fifteen Dogs was considered tops by the five-person Giller Prize jury panel primarily because “It’s a novel filled with balancing acts: humour juxtaposed with savagery, solitude with the desperate need to be part of a pack, perceptive prose interspersed with playful poetry. A wonderful and original piece of writing that challenges the reader to examine their own existence and recall the age old question, what’s the meaning of life?”
Two days after his big win, Alexis took part in a Twitter chat to discuss his win, his influences and future plans. Alexis expounds on many of these same topics in a recent chat on CBC’s As It Happens that’s well worth a listen.
All of Access Copyright salutes André and Coach House Books on their recent literary award success.
