Affiliate André Alexis wins Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize

Author and Access Copyright affiliate André Alexis was the big winner at the Writers’ Trust Awards in Toronto, Nov. 3, which saw $139,000 awarded to Canadian writers.
Alexis received the $25,000 Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize for Fifteen Dogs (Coach House Books – an AC affiliate as well), his tale of what happens when two Greek gods grant a pack of dogs human powers to see if humans or animals lead more fulfilling and happy lives.
In addition, poet Karen Solle received the $25,000 Latner Writers’ Trust Poetry Prize while author Annabel Lyon was announced as the winner of this year’s $25,000 Writers’ Trust Engel/Findley Award. Author Richard Wagamese was also honoured with the $20,000 Matt Cohen Award: In Celebration of a Writing Life in recognition of a body of work that has spanned over 30 years. Poet Deirdre Dore won the $10,000 Writers’ Trust/McClelland & Stewart Journey Prize and author/illustrator Jan Thornhill received the $20,000 Vicky Metcalf Award for Literature for Young People.
