ACF’s research grants provide valuable opportunities to Canadian creators to conduct in-depth inquiry and to bring added dimension to stories that might not otherwise be told. Organizations serving our creative communities will use their grants to investigate ways to expand and enhance the services they offer.
This year’s ACF grants will support efforts, among others, to shine a light on British Columbia’s Indigenous communities, highlight the contributions of female astronauts and learn how to expand the capacity of Canada’s visual-artists ecosystem.
“Being able to tell our stories is important and in order to be able to do so, creators and organizations need to be empowered to have the opportunity and financial means to conduct the research to help bring them to life,” said ACF Co-Chair Margaret Reynolds. “On behalf of the ACF’s Board of Directors, I am proud that the Marian Hebb Research Grants program continues to make a small but vital contribution to this critical work.”
ACF has been flexible throughout the pandemic accommodating and assisting grant applicants and recipients who have had to shift their plans. More information on how the Foundation is responding to COVID-19 can be found here: https://acfoundation.ca/covid-19-impact-on-acf-grants/.
ACF grants are awarded through a peer adjudication process administered on behalf of the Foundation by the Saskatchewan Arts Board. Jurors for the 2020 Marian Hebb Research Grant program were: Don Gillmor, novelist, journalist and children’s book author; Gerald Hill, poet, and retired English and creative-writing professor; and Heidi Waechtler, Executive Director of the Association of Book Publishers of British Columbia.
