In total, the Foundation has awarded $140,000 in Research Grant funding this year, the most it has distributed for research in a calendar year since 2013, in recognition of how travel costs have increased. With this extra funding, the Foundation has also been able to support a record 37 creators this year to support research that will result in a wide variety of new Canadian published works.
“Even as Access Copyright is facing challenging times that we hope the federal government will resolve through following through on its commitment to fix Canada’s Copyright Act, I take great pride in the historic investment Access Copyright Foundation has made this year to support creators conducting vital research,” said Foundation chair Paul Seesequasis.
Access Copyright Foundation grants are awarded through a peer review process administered by SK Arts on behalf of the Foundation. Jurors for the 2023 Marian Hebb Research Grant program were author and academic Sneha Subramanian Kanta, author Ken McGoogan, and investigate journalist and author Karen Pinchin.
