Access Copyright and Canada's post-secondary education community need to move past disagreement and renew ties with each other, according to AC executive director Roanie Levy.
In a commentary piece for Academic Matters, Roanie describes Access Copyright’s efforts to re-engage with Canadian universities, including: the expansion of representation around the Board table to include two academic librarians and a leader in K-12 public education, the launch of more flexible and affordable licence offerings, and ongoing pilot projects aimed at developing new tools that integrate copyright clearance and content access with the digital platforms faculty and students already use.
Noting that Access Copyright in uniquely poised to meet the content access and copyright permissions needs of educators, Roanie concludes by stating, “It’s time we moved past disagreement and distrust and reconnect on common ground. Our librarians, faculty, and students deserve better. Our creators and publishers deserve better.”
