World Book and Copyright Day on April 23

Monday, April 25, 2016

The power of books to inspire readers, and their function as an essential societal and cultural building block was celebrated on April 23 through World Book and Copyright Day.

An initiative of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and several other international organizations, World Book and Copyright Day was launched in 1995 with the express purpose to promote literacy and to encourage all to become lifelong lovers of reading.

In a message prepared by Irina Bokova, director-general of UNESCO for this year’s event, “Books help weave humanity together as a single family, holding a past in common, a history and heritage, to craft a destiny that is shared, where all voices are heard in the great chorus of human aspiration.”

Access Copyright is proud to support World Book and Copyright Day and we encourage to spread the word about it by using #Bookday.
