Becoming a public sector licensee
Municipal licences
Access Copyright developed its Municipal Government Licence with its first municipal licensee, the City of Toronto, with input and support from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
Municipalities are home to many creators and local publishers whose works inform the cultural life of the cities and towns spread across this country. Their works are most likely to be copied in the day-to-day running of local governments since they write about and publish stories about local events.
Access Copyright licenses the Federal and some provincial governments to ensure that the copying done by government employees during the course of everyday business is carried out legally, and that copyright owners receive fair payment for the use of their works.
With an Access Copyright licence, government employees may no longer need to contact individual copyright owners in order to negotiate permission to copy. The licence provides advance permission for most copying needs, with immediate access to materials and reduced administrative costs.
