Affiliate now, it’s easy
Under Canada's copyright law, copyright owners generally have the right to decide when and how their works are reproduced, whether they're being copied using a photocopier, electronically or through other means. In the past it was difficult for copyright owners to know when their works were being copied and to protect their rights when copying was done illegally, but collective licensing has changed that. Under Access Copyright's licensing system, users of copyright protected material can conveniently and easily obtain legal permission to copy, and copyright owners can be compensated for that copying.
Any Canadian company or subsidiary of a foreign company in Canada (headquartered outside of Quebec) is eligible to apply for affiliation, provided they meet the following requirements:
- At least one of their works is already published in print form
- The company is not already affiliated with any other reprographic rights agency, such as COPIBEC in Quebec
- If the company is a subsidiary of another company, then its parent company must not be an affiliate of Access Copyright. (If your parent company is already an Access Copyright affiliate, any royalties we collect payable to you will be sent to your parent company for distribution)
- You are not a self-publisher. If you are a self-publisher, meaning that your company only publishes works written by you, please apply as a Creator Affiliate.
The agreement with Access Copyright allows your company to continue to license its work to users through other, non-collective means, including by issuing permission directly.
